Introduction

The present manual describes the installation of the ADABAS tools in a Microsoft Windows 3.1 environment.

The ADABAS tools for Windows have been designed for client-server operation. The ADABAS tools are executed on one or several Windows PCs (clients) connected to a network. The database system runs on one (or several) server computer(s) within the network. Communication between the clients and the database server as well as between several DB servers generally takes place via TCP/IP (sockets).

The following tools are available for ADABAS which support access to an ADABAS server (SERVERDB) from a Windows environment:

OfficePlus contains a package of Windows applications and add-ons that offer easy access to ADABAS data directly from within standard Windows programs. The components of this package have been particularly adapted to the use of the Microsoft Office Package, but can also be used with any other Windows program supporting DDE or the clipboard.

DOMAIN is the database administration (DBA) tool of ADABAS which offers the complete data definition functionality of ADABAS as well as data dictionary functions in a menu-driven way.

The ODBC driver permits access to ADABAS data from Windows applications through use of the Microsoft ODBC interface.

Finally, ADABAS Windows Clients provide the proven and well-known ADABAS end user tools EASY, QUERY, and LOAD as well as the ADABAS programming interface, the C/C++ precompiler, for the Windows environment.
