Overview on the Installation Procedure

The following is a brief overview on the single steps that are required for the installation of ADABAS:

1. Checking the system resources (see Section Disk Space)

2. Loading the distribution medium with the command 'cpio' (see Section Installing the ADABAS Software).

3. Defining the required environment variables, such as DBROOT, either manually or semiautomatically with the shell script 'SAGINST' (see Section Installing the ADABAS Software ).

4. Installing the ADABAS software with the command 'bin/x_install' as UNIX user 'root' (see Section Installing the ADABAS Software).

5. New Installation
Update Installation
Defining the devspaces on which the SERVERDB is to be installed (see Section Creating the DEVSPACEs).

Defining the SERVERDB using the tool CONTROL (see Section Installing a New SERVERDB; or the CONTROL manual, Section 3.1). CONTROL requests any parameters required for the installation of a new SERVERDB, starts the SERVERDB, and loads the system tables (see CONTROL manual, Section 3.2).
First, the SERVERDB must be started with the tool CONTROL. Then an update of the system tables can be performed in CONTROL (see Section Installing an ADABAS Version Update ; or the CONTROL manual, Section 3.3).

6. Afterwards, the SERVERDB is operative.
